I have a short list of things I want to change on the computer before making it my primary device (making Brave my default browser, finding the "black and white" appearance function, downloading an adblocker, installing a website-blocking productivity tool), but the idea of even doing this is stressful to me as everything seems more complicated on Linux. For example, installing Brave browser - I go to the web page, but the instructions read like code to me, and the "download" button doesn't do what I'm used to it doing on MacOS. While it is in fact minimalist appearance-wise, I'm finding figuring it out is SO difficult, and even something as seemingly straightforward as downloading a new browser is next to impossible for me. Now that I've finally got it up and running, I'm feeling a bit defeated. I am not a technologically advanced person, my skills are very limited, and so even the installation (and then getting wifi to function) on my computer took several attempts over the course of a couple months. My desktop is an old iMac that has outdated software, so when a number of people in another sub suggested I try Linux Mint as a low-bling OS, I was keen on trying it. One of my ideas for a solution was to set up a desktop computer in the garage, rather than having the convenience and portability of my laptop. Over the past while, I've been trying to reduce my screen time, as I'd like to create more space in my day for other hobbies, which I often don't get around to, because I seem to be drawn to the quick-fix of entertainment from a computer. I don't need to do business work, it's all just personal use. My computer needs are pretty basic - I use email, a search engine, Reddit, Etsy, and upload photos from my DSLR camera.
